^^ Meat and 'Cheeseee' ^^
From what I understand, having your birthday during a busy work week as a second year law student can be pretty dismal and very depressing. Although I tried to surprise Browning at midnight with some study bday cookies delivered by a local bakery, he promptly sent them away thinking that they weren't his (I mean who turns away cookies?!). Even though the cookies eventually made it, we decided to start the real birthday celebration on Friday night when I arrived to NYC. I made reservations at Birreria, and although we had tried out the beverages before, we were excited to sit down and enjoy the hearty food.
^^ Brews and Blood Sausage = Happy Boy ^^
It was a cool night, but the glassed in rooftop was the perfect setting with dim lighting and a lively atmosphere. Despite a few snafu's with the waiter at first (like they forgot our entrees...), the food definitely made up for it. I enjoyed the flanksteak (ya that vegan things isn't working out so great...), and Browning had the blood sausage. The sausage was much different than what we thought it would be - actually more of a meatloaf! Turns out, I really liked the blood sausage and Browning liked my steak - such is life. After our meal, we wandered a bit more around the Eataly market and barely avoided getting a concrete at the Shake Shack across the street (dodged a food bullet there). We made it back uptown to Morningside Heights and enjoyed a few beers with Browning's law school buds. It was a very low key evening with good food, great friends, and cool beers - I think he was pleased :)
^^ Eataly goodies - I want it all (maybe not the octopus) ^^
And don't worry, the beer/birthday-fest continued Saturday and TO BROOKLYN! But more on that later...
